What is the Melanage Skin Brightening System?
Do you have uneven skin tone, deep pigment or melasma? The Melanage Skin Brightening System is a superficial peel designed to improve the texture and appearance of hyperpigmented skin which involves a medicated masque and an at-home regimen. There is NO pain and little-to-no irritation during the application of the mask, and typically, the irritation level on the following days is more like a sunburn.
How does it work?
Melanage 1 Masque is applied during an office visit where it is compounded freshly by Dr Lowney to ensure its potency and reliability. The masque is removed by the patient after a required length of time (usually 6 to 8 hours) depending on their skin type. Patients leave the office with this masque on their face. Patients are responsible for adhering to an easy-to-follow, but strict, at-home regimen involving the application of several Melanage products following masque removal.
What results can I expect?
Results will vary but generally patients will see a significant improvement in the appearance of pigmented areas. Dark spots will lighten and skin texture and tone will improve. Although most patients experience peeling of their skin, not every patient will notice this. If you do not notice actual peeling, please know that you are receiving all the benefits of the Melanage Skin Brightening System, such as: stimulation of collagen production, improvement of skin tone and texture, and diminishment of fine lines and pigmentation. Proper skin evaluation by Dr Lowney prior to your peel is important and will help predict the outcome of your peel.
Who should be treated?
The Melanage Skin Brightening System SHOULD NOT be used on patients with active cold sores or warts, skin with open wounds, sunburn, excessively sensitive skin, dermatitis, or inflammatory rosacea in the area to be treated. Inform Dr Lowney if you have any history of Herpes simplex. You should also not have a Melanage Skin Brightening System if you have a history of allergies, rashes, or other skin reactions, or may be sensitive to any of the components of this treatment. This peel is not recommended if you have taken Accutane within the past year, or received chemotherapy or radiation therapy. The Melanage Peel System should not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding (lactating) women.
How often can I have a Melanage Peel?
Most patients get incredible results after just one treatment. The Melanage Skin Brightening System can be repeated after 6 months.
How long does it take before I see results?
Most patients see results within 30 days and will continue to get improvement for up to 6 months.
Can I have the Melanage Peel performed during the summer months?
The Melanage Skin Brightening System is safe and can be performed throughout the year. The system comes with a potent sunscreen which should be used throughout the year to prevent the melasma from returning.
Does the Melanage Peel work on all skin types?
Unlike lasers, the Melanage peel works on all skin types including darker skin. Prior to the Melanage Peel, darker skin did not respond well to peels and lasers. This is a breakthrough for dark-skinned people who have waited until now for a peel that works optimally on their skin.
What is the treatment like?
First, Dr Lowney or his nurse will cleanse the skin using a special skin degreasing solution pad. The peel solution is withdrawn from a syringe pipet and inserted into a glass beaker. Dr Lowney then utilizes special swabs to evenly apply the Melanage solution over the skin’s surface, avoiding contact with the eyes and eye area.
The masque remains on for 6 to 8 hours depending on the skin type. The patient washes the masque off using the Melanage Anti-Redness Foaming Cleanser. Then the patient pats the skin dry and applies a layer of Anti-Redness Soothing Balm. The follow-up treatment continues for 6 days with morning and night applications of specialized Melanage ointments and creams. After a week, the applications continue in an abbreviated format.
