Dr Lowney wholeheartedly believes that diet and exercise should be attempted initially to obtain a healthy body habitus. Liposuction is not meant to be a substitute for diet and exercise, but performed on women and men who desire body sculpting to a specific area or spot reduction of a specific trouble area.
Liposuction can also be performed to debulk unwanted fat in order to jumpstart a new diet and exercise program. Areas commonly treated with liposuction include:
At the Advanced Body Sculpting Institute, Dr Lowney utilizes a combination of the most advanced, state-of-the-art technologies and techniques including SmartLipo laser lipolysis, Power assisted microcannula tumescent liposuction, Celluderm® and SmartSound post-treatment lymphatic drainage and massage to obtain the most artistic and elegant sculpted areas of concern, ALL UNDER LOCAL ANESTHESIA IN AN OFFICE SETTING.
Dr. Mark X. Lowney, cosmetic surgeon and founder of Advanced Body Sculpting of New England, located at 484 Highland Avenue in Fall River, Massachusetts, was one of the first cosmetic surgeons in Massachusetts to utilize SmartLipo lipoplasty in body contouring procedures. Dr. Mark X. Lowney received his training in SmartLipo by world-renowned cosmetic dermatologist, Dr. Bruce Katz in New York, New York. In the past 5 years, Dr. Mark X Lowney has performed over 1000 SmartLipo and Traditional micro cannula tumescent liposuction procedures on all body parts including the 1. Chin and Neck, 2. Arms, 3. Upper and Lower Abdomen, 4. Mons Pubis, 5. Hip Rolls (“Love Handles”), 6. Bra Bulge, 7. Inner and Outer Thighs, 8. Ankles and Calves, 9. Male Breasts (gynecomastia), and 10. Buttocks.
Liposuction techniques have advanced over the past 20 years. These technological advancements have made liposuction safer, less traumatic resulting in faster recovery times. One of the most significant breakthroughs in liposuction surgery occurred in the mid-1980’s when Dr. Jeffrey Klein, a brilliant dermatologist and scientist, perfected the “tumescent” or wet-technique. Klein’s technique involves placing a solution consisting of sterile saline, lidocaine, and epinephrine beneath the skin into the fatty layer which is to be removed. This solution makes it possible to do liposuction essentially under complete local anesthesia with minimal blood loss and minimal postop discomfort. By not having to place patients under general anesthesia, safety and recovery are immensely improved.
Laser assisted liposuction came on the scene in mid-2000 with SmartLipo leading the way being the first to become FDA approved. This state-of-the-art technology utilizes a micro-cannula, slightly larger than a pencil lead, to break up and liquefy the fat cells thus making it much easier to remove them with smaller instruments resulting in quicker and less painful recovery. Most patients are able to start exercising within 24 hours and return to work within 48 hours. The SmartLipo laser also heats the dermal layer of the skin which can stimulate collagen formation resulting in noticeable skin tightening especially in the chin and neck areas.
